This review will cover the Tokyo Marui Micro Pro Sight, which can be considered a standard dot sight in the airsoft world.
Personally, I prefer traditional handgun styles like the 1911 and CZ75, and I've always been against attaching red dot sights. I had been hesitant to buy a Micro Pro Sight because Tokyo Marui doesn't have many highly-regarded optical devices.
However, since I've acquired more Glock-type handguns that would look good with a red dot sight, and because it has such a good reputation, I finally decided to buy one.
In this review, we'll explore what makes the Micro Pro Sight so highly regarded.
Also, since many people may be using a red dot sight for the first time with a Tokyo Marui product, I will also introduce how to use it.

Box and contents
Let's start by opening the outer box and checking the contents.

Recently, Tokyo Marui's airsoft guns have often featured elaborate packaging designs that make them enjoyable to open, but the Micro Pro Sight comes in rather simple packaging. Since the affordable price is one of the product's attractions, I think the simple packaging is acceptable (it sells for around 6000 yen).

On the back, as is typical of Japanese companies, the product name, features, and contents are carefully listed. What personally intrigued me was that it's manufactured in Japan at this price. I can't help but wonder how they managed to keep costs down.
Let's take a look at the contents of the package.

The kit includes a complete set of tools for adjusting and mounting the red dot sight, which is a nice bonus. I thought I might need to buy batteries separately, but they were already installed in the unit.
However, since the batteries are likely the ones used for functional checks during mass production, they are worn out and have deteriorated over time, so it would be safer to replace them with new ones.

Let's check the overall appearance and texture.


We will examine the front, back, left, right, up, and down in detail.


It has a fairly simple design. Before purchasing, I thought it might be modeled after the Trijicon RMR or DoctorSight, but it appears to be an original design. I'll discuss the lens in more detail later, so I'll skip that for now.


The right side has a very simple design, with only a screw for adjusting the left/right position of the dot (vintage style), the manufacturer's logo, and the power button.
The power supply has three settings: Low, OFF, and High. The left/right adjustment screw (vintage adjustment) is used by turning it with the included hex wrench.

When I actually tried turning the wrench, there was absolutely no clicking sensation; it simply felt like I was turning a screw.

The top surface only has mounting screws and screws for adjusting the height of the dot (elevation).
The vertical adjustment is done by turning it with the included wrench, just like the horizontal adjustment. When turning it with the wrench, it feels the same as the horizontal adjustment, and there is no click sensation at all.

Next, if you look at the underside as is, you will only see the rail section, so we will remove the rail mount and take a look. Remove the rail mount by using the included hex wrench to remove the two screws shown in the photo below.

This is the connection point between the mount and the main body.

The mounting specifications for the attachment points are unique. While this can be inconvenient for users because each manufacturer uses a different mount, micro red dot sights are quite popular in the Japanese airsoft community, so many compatible mounts are available from various companies, meaning it shouldn't be a problem.
Finally, attach the included dot sight cover. To attach it, simply place it over the top.

The cover was made of resin and was designed so that it could be attached even when the handgun was equipped with it.
Next, I placed it in my hand so you can get a sense of the size.

You can see how compact it is when compared to the palm of your hand.

It's the weight.


The weight was 15.5g for the main unit and 30.5g with the mount attached. It's quite lightweight, and at around 16g, it seems that mounting it on a gas blowback handgun would have very little impact on its operation.
Surprisingly, the rail mount weighs 15g, almost the same weight as the main body. The rail itself is made of lightweight resin, but the screws that clamp it are made of iron, so I suppose that's unavoidable (you won't use them if you're mounting it on a gas blowback handgun).
From a quick glance at the exterior, the design appears to prioritize cost and lightness, resulting in a simple shape. The texture is not particularly good, as it's mostly made of resin with no paint, just the molded color. On the other hand, this means that even if it gets dirty or scratched from heavy use, it won't be too noticeable.
Battery replacement, disassembly
Let's go over how to replace the battery.
To replace the battery, remove the mounting rail using the included hex wrench.

After removing the mounting rail, turn it over and remove the two screws shown in the following picture using the included screwdriver.

This will give you access to the battery compartment.

Replacing the battery involves several steps and can be a bit cumbersome, so you should be careful not to forget to turn off the power.
While I was changing the battery, I decided to take it apart as far as I could.
Remove the screws located at the bottom of the battery compartment.

When you open the lid, you'll find the circuit board and the up/down/left/right adjustment mechanism.

The dot's vertical and horizontal adjustment mechanism simply involved moving the laser unit up, down, left, and right using screws. Since the range of movement in all directions is large, zeroing should not be a problem.
We will continue the disassembly.

The electronic circuit board was very simple, consisting only of a power supply, a switch, and an LED unit.
My guess was that it would be mounted with rubber bushings or something to cushion the recoil, but there was nothing like that. However, the manufacturer has probably conducted durability tests and cleared some requirements, so there shouldn't be any problems.
Proceed with disassembly and remove the screws on both sides.


Now I've completely disassembled it.

Some reviews mention that the switches are stiff, so let's take a look at the mechanics.

The switch has a protrusion and the receiving side has a recess, and it seems that the clicky feel is created by them interlocking. If you are really bothered by the feel of the operation, you can try filing down the tip of the protrusion on the switch a little to change the movement. However, I think it will naturally wear down with use and become more comfortable, so it's probably best to just keep using it.
Lens, how dots appear?
We'll look through the lens with the dots off to check the color.

The lenses aren't completely clear; they have a bluish tint, but I don't think it's bothersome.
The blue tint of the lens isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it makes red dots more noticeable in bright sunlight. In fact, some manufacturers like Trijicon and Sightron intentionally make their lenses blue.
Next, let's look at lens distortion.

The distortion seems quite small (though I can't really tell).
This is the lens size.

The lens area is small, but that's unavoidable given the camera's ultra-lightweight and compact design.
Next, let's turn on the dots and take a look.
The instruction manual recommends this low level for indoor, dark environments.

The dots appear very clear with minimal blurring. While the dots may appear large in photos, they are actually just the right size considering the small size of the lens.
This is a high-level product for outdoor use.

The photo was taken indoors, so it might look too bright, but outdoors it would be just right, or perhaps even a little brighter.
Next, with the dot illumination level set to High, we will move the dot up, down, left, and right.

I think it's excellent because the dots are not cut off on any of the top, bottom, left, or right sides, and are clearly visible right up to the edge.
I tried lighting up the dot outdoors (brightness level: High).

The dots seem a little weak, but it doesn't appear to be a problem for practical use.
Summary

What I felt after reviewing this product is that it's a reliable red dot sight that's incredibly lightweight and affordable, and definitely usable. The lens is easy to see through, the dot is clear, and it can be zeroed in—these are all things you'd expect from a red dot sight, but in a world where there are so many Chinese-made replicas, being able to expect stable functionality, performance, quality, and supply at a low price is a huge plus.
Another attractive feature is its incredibly light weight of 16g, which means it has minimal impact on the operation of gas blowback handguns. If you're concerned about operation, you can install a lightweight breech, a modification I often do, which will make it as light as or even lighter than the original, ensuring the same level of operation as the original. While durability cannot be confirmed in this review, since it is manufactured and sold by Tokyo Marui, it should have been thoroughly tested internally, so I have high expectations.
These factors explain why it has such a high reputation.
On the other hand, there were a few things that bothered me personally. The build quality of the exterior isn't very good, I wish there was a wider range of dot brightness levels to choose from, and it would be even better if the dot adjustment screw had a clicky feel. However, considering the trade-off with the weight and the cost, I think these are perfectly acceptable.
