KSC Beretta M9 HW SYSTEM7 Hop-up packing replacement (M92F)

The previousReview of a KSC M9 HW System 7 after long-term use.I did it.

Since it's been used for about 12 years, various parts are starting to show wear and tear, so I'd like to give it an overhaul. This time, I'll mainly be showing you how to replace the hop packing, which is a typical example of a rubber part that seems to be particularly worn out.

The work I'm going to describe today can be done by KSC, although it will cost money and take some time.

However, if you still want to do it quickly and cheaply, please feel free to use this as a reference.

Fieldstrip

This is a basic field strip.

Please press the oval-shaped button located on the front right side of the device.

While pressing this button, move the lever on the opposite side of the unit.

This will release the slide lock, allowing you to disassemble the unit by sliding it forward.

When the slide is removed, it separates into the following three parts.

The main objective this time is to replace the hop-up packing, so next we'll disassemble the outer barrel.

Disassembly of the outer barrel

Now we'll disassemble the outer barrel, but in the case of the M9, it's a little more complicated because it uses a prop-up short recoil system, which isn't very common in the real thing.

I'll explain how to do it, as anyone can do it by following the steps.

Remove the cam that generates the prop-up. This cam is connected by the pin shown in the picture, so remove the pin.

This pin can be removed with a hex wrench or similar tool, but we strongly recommend using a pin punch.

I'd like to introduce my favorite pin punch and plant hanger.

It's not a luxury brand, but it's a recommended mid-range brand in the automotive industry that offers good value for money. Plus, it's inexpensive.

Vessel Plastic Hammer
It's inexpensive, sturdy, and long-lasting. For a good balance of control and power, the 1-pound size is recommended.

This will remove the cam and spring for prop-up.

Next, remove the positioning part that secures the inner barrel. Simply unscrew it.

It seems to have come off.

Even after all this, the inner barrel and hop-up packing still cannot be removed, so next we will remove the feed ramp.

The feed lamp is connected by the two pins shown in the following picture.

I'd like to introduce a maintenance block, which is very useful when removing pins like these.

It's incredibly convenient to have. Moreover, it's designed for handguns but can also handle longer firearms, making it very useful. In fact, I personally didn't see the need for their M4 version.

Now you can remove the feed ramp and inner barrel. Be careful, as the feed ramp is quite tightly fitted.

After that, you can completely disassemble it by removing the parts attached to the inner barrel.

Next, we'll install the new hop packing and assemble the parts.

Hop-up packing replacement, outer barrel assembly

First, here is the brand new, genuine hop-up packing I prepared.

This is a genuine KSC two-pronged gasket. You can buy it online from the KSC website. I think it was around 350 yen.

I originally wanted to compare the old and new parts side-by-side, but the difference was difficult to see in the photos, so I gave up on that. The difference was that the old gasket had absorbed oil, become swollen and soft. It was in good condition considering its age, but it felt like it was time to replace it.

So, I'll install a new gasket.

First, insert the gasket into the collar.

Carefully attach this to the inner barrel and then attach the clip.

Next, carefully attach the plate that holds the important gasket in place. This plate is a metal fitting that adjusts how far the gasket is pressed in, so be careful not to bend it. Also, pay attention to the specific position where the fitting is attached.

Next, attach the assembled inner barrel to the block. At this time, also attach the positioning plastic clips.

Next, attach the part that secures the inner barrel. Please note that, as shown in the picture, there is a fitting at the top, so make sure to fit it firmly into place. While it is possible to assemble it without fitting it, it will not be possible to secure it in the correct position.

Here, just to be sure, check that the protrusion on the hop packing is pressed correctly.

If this looks okay, then we'll install the feed lamp.

Secure the feed lamp with a pin.

Now, attach the assembled parts to the outer barrel.

Now, we insert the pins to secure the outer and inner barrels together.

Next, we'll assemble the parts for the prop-up gimmick.

I'll add the spring, which is often forgotten. Furthermore, I apply grease to the moving parts.

I'd like to introduce the grease I always use and recommend.

Bellhammer No. 0 Gold Grease
This is a classic, top-quality grease. No. 0 is a low-viscosity grease. I generally use No. 0 for resin-to-resistance and resin-to-metal connections.

Finally, secure the prop-up cam with a pin, and you're done.

When assembled correctly, it will look like this:

The outer barrel has a somewhat complex component configuration, due to its prop-up short recoil system and KSC's characteristic accurate reproduction of the mechanism.

However, if you do it carefully, you can assemble and disassemble it without needing any special tools or skills, so it's fun to give it a try.

Also, aftermarket packings and push fittings for KSC are starting to appear little by little, so those who want to change the trajectory might want to consider swapping them out.
