LCT Electric Airsoft Gun AK74 NV Review (Purchased December 2020)

I got completely hooked on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War when it was released in the fall of 2020, and the AK was so powerful in the game that I wanted one (I'm totally acting like a kid).

I own a fair number of airsoft guns, but I didn't have an electric AK, so I started looking for one.

While the AK47 is powerful in games, I personally prefer a sleek and long design, so I was drawn to the AK74. Since KSC makes a gas blowback version of the AK74MN, and I assumed it would be made of wood, I decided on the AK74.

While AKs are sold by various manufacturers, LCT is considered the standard for electric AKs, so I immediately bought one.

I considered getting a blowback model, but after seeing how it worked, I felt like it would break easily, so I bought a regular AK74 NV with a side mount from HBLT (Amazon) for about 44,000 yen.

Now, let's begin the review.

Out-of-box appearance

First, let's take a quick look at the exterior.

The receiver is made of sheet metal iron.

The texture is quite good, wouldn't you say?

Overall, it has that nice, traditional Russian rifle feel of iron and wood. However, the selector switch is quite stiff to operate.

Next, let's take a closer look at the wooden part.

It's made of plywood (laminated) and has wooden pins driven in to increase its strength.

Next is the side mount section.

The side mount is secured with three rivets and appears to be quite sturdily attached.

While using genuine LCT side mount rails should be fine, cheaper ones also worked.

In the worst-case scenario, I'll modify it and install it directly.

The only downside to the appearance is the ugly color of the grip. I'm definitely going to paint it later to give it a bakelite-like finish.

Next is the distinctive muzzle device of the AK74.

This is the adjustment mechanism for the rear sight.

It's a standard tangent sight. I have a slight astigmatism, so I'm not very good with them. Anyway, I'll post a picture of a red dot sight.

Next is the chamber section and the hop adjustment section.

This is the magazine slot.

This is a slide-type hop-up chamber, commonly found in so-called gearbox Ver.3.

The magazine slot is apparently a common feature on AKs, but you won't be able to insert the magazine unless you get the hang of it.

Since there are products like Magwells available for sale, this is definitely a solution.

The trigger guard is attached with a hex bolt. According to experts, the real thing uses rivets, but I'm not very familiar with AKs, so it doesn't bother me at all.

Next is the rear end of the stock.

The bottom of the stock has a flimsy lid attached for storing a cleaning kit.

Removing the top and bottom negative bolts will allow you to insert the battery.

The flimsy lid also fell off along with the tray plate. It's annoying that it keeps falling off, so I might glue it down later.

The battery compartment is quite spacious and can easily accommodate a 2000mAh LiPo battery. I think there's even room for some plug-and-play electronic devices like FETs.

It came with a nice catalog, a muzzle velocity certificate, and a mysterious plastic plate.

The catalog is excellent, likely containing all of LCT's product lineup and accessories. It's quite comprehensive and enjoyable to read. (VFC didn't have this.)

It comes with one 150-round spring-fed magazine. The quality of this magazine isn't very good.

That concludes the exterior.

Overall, I'd say the texture and rigidity are exceptionally good. However, the grip is a real letdown.

Out-of-the-box shooting performance

Now let's look at the actual shooting performance. Under the usual conditions, the battery is an ET-1 REDLINE 7.4V 2000mAh, stored at approximately 7.8V, the ammunition is Tokyo Marui Bio BBs 0.2g, and the hop-up is set to 0.

The initial velocity variation was approximately ±1.5 m/s. The initial velocity is sufficient, but the rate of fire is a bit slow.

The values ​​are similar to those on the initial velocity certificate, which gives me a good impression that they are a reputable company.

The response is average. The trigger pull is long and the sound is a little bothersome.

We'll consider those issues and customize it accordingly.

Summary

In conclusionOut of the box, the appearance is perfect, except for the grip.

I think the wooden parts, especially the handguard and stock, are very well finished. Most of the parts are made of iron, which gives it a really nice feel.

However, the texture of the grip was something that really needed improvement (it's average for an electric airsoft gun).

In terms of performance, with 0.2g BBs, the initial velocity is 94m/s, so it seems like it would fly well if the hop-up is properly engaged. The rate of fire is 12.5 rounds per second with a 7.4V battery, which is on the slower side. As a result of the slow rate of fire, the response is also not very good.

In conclusion, the exterior is quite well-made and the performance is decent, so I think it could be used right out of the box.
