Attaching an SBD to an electric airsoft gun

This shows the positive and negative sides of an SBD (Single-Band Display) element for electric airsoft guns.

These days, installing an SBD (Small Brake Device) has become commonplace. As far as I know, it's the easiest way to reduce switch burnout in electric airsoft guns.

Here, I'd like to explain how to install an SBD yourself.

Tools to prepare

Here's a list of tools that are useful to have when working on this task.

We will use the tools shown in the following picture.

Tool set needed to install an SBD on an electric airsoft gun

From left to right: radio pliers, screwdriver set, masking tape, and, of course, an SBD (Small Screwdriver).

Radio pliers are used to remove motor terminals and the motor itself.

Masking tape is used to prevent accidents by applying it to gaps to keep foreign objects from entering the motor. international success.

I've ruined motors several times by getting screws or other objects inside. Some overseas-made motors are easy to disassemble, but Tokyo Marui motors are difficult to take apart, so be careful.

• Screwdriver set
While cheaper options are fine, for affordable yet high-quality products, I recommend brands like Hazet, Tone, KTC, and Vessel.

Tamiya Masking Tape
Besides using it in this way, it can be used for various other purposes, such as preventing inner barrel wobble, so I find it very useful.

Actual work

Remove the motor from the grip.

First, remove the motor cover to detach the motor from the grip.(Remove the battery beforehand.).

Screws needed to remove the motor cover of an electric airsoft gun.

The cover can be removed by unscrewing the Phillips head screws at the top and bottom of the picture. Please note that you should not remove the screw circled in yellow in the middle.

This screw is used for positioning the motor, so it's not relevant this time (it's for adjusting the position of the pinion gear).

When the lid is opened, it will look like the picture. Although not shown in the picture, there is a washer for positioning the motor in the circular part in the center of the motor, so be careful not to lose it.

The correct position of the positive and negative electrodes on the motor installed in an electric airsoft gun.

Please gently remove the terminals with pliers. The terminals break easily if you apply too much force.

Damaging the motor terminals can be a real hassle.

Since the + and - terminals are not energized, it doesn't matter which one you disconnect first.

Remove the motor.

Next, remove the motor.

On the motor, the red terminal is positive (+) and the black terminal is negative (-).

Next, we'll apply masking tape to prevent accidents.

Next, attach the SBD to the motor bolt, paying attention to the positive and negative terminals.

First, before attaching the SBD to the motor, check the electrodes of the SBD.

When installing the SBD, be careful not to mix up the electrodes (+, -) of the SBD and the electrodes (+, -) of the motor.

Correct installation of an SBD on an electric airsoft gun motor, including the correct positioning of the + and - terminals.

If you connect the electrodes incorrectly and reverse them, the SBD will burst and die instantly. The battery won't catch fire or the gun will malfunction, but you'll need to get a new SBD, so be careful.

Assemble (don't forget the sims)

We'll put it back together in the order we removed it.

First, let's take a look at the motor shims, which are often overlooked before installing the motor with the SBD into the airsoft gun.

Motor height adjustment shims for electric airsoft guns, with silicone grease applied.

The disc-like part on top is a motor shim, and forgetting to install it will cause problems, so be careful. Also, shims tend to fall off the motor when installing them, so I apply a thin layer of silicone grease to the shims to make them stick to the motor with adhesive properties.

A shim is placed on top of the motor with an SBD in an electric airsoft gun.

Finally, put the lid on and you're done.

The longer screw goes on the barrel side and the shorter screw goes on the stock side.

Summary

When you actually try it, there are a few things to be careful about, but it's easy. It also takes about 15 minutes.

This modification significantly reduces switch burnout in electric airsoft guns, so I highly recommend it.

The tools are all easy to find, and best of all, it's inexpensive. You can even find SBDs for around 800 yen if you get a cheap one.

Thank you for your time.
